The Ridges Honors Defenders of Freedom

Hiawassee, GA – The Ridges Resort & Marina celebrated Armed Forces Weekend with a celebration held on the resort property. Towns County Sole Commissioner, Bill Kendall, signed a proclamation declaring May 19, 2012 as the first designated day for veterans, both fallen and living to be recognized and honored as this country’s “Defender’s of Freedom.”
Chad Hooper, General Manager, welcomed the guests and after The Pledge of Allegiance, the flag ceremony took place. The flag was lowered to half mast to honor those lost in the line of duty and restored to full mast after the reading of the proclamation and the mournful playing of Taps. Those in attendance were moved by the honor given to all those who protect our freedoms.
Several area veterans were in attendance. World War II veterans, Vietnam Veterans, Korean War Veterans as well as an Afganistan campaign four time veteran.
A light reception followed in the lobby of the resort.
“The Ridges Resort is proud to honor the armed forces who have given us the freedoms that we live in today. It is an honor to have you here today. We want to thank you for your service you have given to this great country,” said Hooper.
